Terms of Service
Last updated 31 October 2026
These Terms govern your use of Clir and the accessibility assessment services available through clir.site.
By purchasing an assessment, you agree to these Terms.
Definitions and how these Terms fit together
In these Terms:
- Assessment means Clir's automated evaluation of the website pages included in the scope you confirmed.
- Accessibility Report (or report) means the findings and supporting information Clir makes available to you from an assessment.
- Agency Pass means the paid subscription with reusable client-page capacity, subject to the published plan and project-window rules.
- Recheck means a later automated evaluation of the pages of the original assessment, to compare them with the findings originally reported. It is not a new, unrestricted scan.
- Closeout means a dated record of an assessment and its rechecks. It is not a certificate of compliance.
- Workspace means the passwordless account area that lists the assessments and client projects linked to an email address you have verified.
- Monitoring means optional periodic checks of pages you select. It is not continuous observation and does not promise to detect every change.
- Assessment-page credit means a non-cash unit that can pay for one page of an eligible client project, under the Credits & Referrals Policy.
If you take part in Clir Partners or the credits and referrals programme, the Programme Terms and the Credits & Referrals Policy apply in addition to these Terms. If a particular purchase or offer states different page, time or price terms in writing at the time, those terms apply to that purchase.
About Clir
Clir provides automated website accessibility assessments and developer-ready reports. Depending on the assessment you choose, Clir may analyse a single page or multiple selected pages of a website.
Clir is intended for business and professional use.
You must have the right or authority to submit a website for assessment. Do not use Clir to assess private, restricted or confidential websites without appropriate permission.
What Clir provides
A Clir assessment may identify accessibility issues, affected elements, recurring patterns, supporting evidence and remediation information within the pages included in the selected scope.
Automated testing has limitations. Clir does not claim to identify every accessibility issue that may exist on a website.
A Clir assessment is not a certification of accessibility or legal compliance, is not a substitute for every form of manual or user testing, and does not guarantee compliance with WCAG or any law, regulation or standard.
Clir does not provide legal advice.
Service boundaries and responsible automation
Clir assesses the websites and pages that you submit. You are responsible for having permission for the requested activity, including automated page loading and interaction.
Clir limits the number of pages, the rate of requests, file sizes and execution time to protect the service and other customers. Where a limit materially affects what you buy, such as the number of pages in a project, it is shown before you pay.
A Clir report separates findings that automated evidence supports from items that need human review. A confirmed finding describes the specific failure its evidence supports; it does not mean that every part of the website was assessed. The absence of a finding is not evidence that a page or website is accessible.
If a report appears incomplete or technically incorrect, contact support@clir.site. We may review the evidence and correct defects in Clir's software. Support does not include bespoke consulting.
Free scans and previews
Clir may provide a free scan or preview before purchase.
A free preview may contain only part of the information available in the complete assessment. The availability or contents of a free preview do not guarantee that a website has no additional accessibility issues.
Assessment scope
For multi-page assessments, you review and confirm the pages included before purchasing.
Your assessment covers the confirmed scope. Pages that were not selected are not part of the purchased assessment.
Websites can change after an assessment is performed. Clir's report reflects what Clir was able to assess at the time the relevant pages were processed. Later changes to the website may make the report outdated.
Pricing and payment
Clir assessments are purchased with a one-time payment. Clir does not require a subscription. (The Agency Pass, described in section 5A, is a separate, optional subscription for professional client work.)
The price shown before checkout is based on the assessment scope you selected and is the price for that purchase, in US dollars.
Payments are processed by Stripe. Clir does not receive or store your full payment-card details.
Prices may change for future purchases. A later change in Clir's pricing does not change the price of an assessment you have already purchased.
Agency Pass
The Agency Pass is an optional subscription for professional client work: assessing websites that you build, maintain or advise on for your clients. One pass is for one business. You may not transfer, resell or sub-license a pass or its capacity.
Each plan includes a number of client pages for 90-day project windows, across any number of client websites. A client project can include up to 50 pages on Solo, 100 pages on Studio and 200 pages on Agency, and holds its pages for its 90-day project window; the pages become available again automatically when the window ends. Finishing, archiving or cancelling work that has already started does not release those pages early. Larger projects or more pages are available by arrangement; contact us.
Rechecks of an Agency Pass client project are included as needed during that project's 90-day window. They do not use further pages and do not extend or restart the window. Clir applies technical limits to protect the service and may restrict use that is automated or abusive beyond normal professional use.
The Agency Pass is billed through Stripe, annually or monthly depending on the plan, and renews automatically until you cancel. The Solo plan is billed annually. You can cancel at any time from your pass; cancelling stops renewal, and you can keep starting client projects until the end of the period you have paid for. A pass that has not been paid up cannot start new client projects.
There is no password. Access is by a private link sent to the billing email address and by a sign-in that stays on your device. Anyone who has your link can use your pass, so keep it private. You can ask for a new access link, which also signs out other devices, at any time from your pass.
A client project you have started is an assessment in its own right, with its own private report link and its own access period. It does not depend on your subscription remaining active. A report link you give to a client or developer opens that report only; it never opens your pass or any other client's report.
These Terms, including the limits on what Clir can tell you (sections 2 and 13), apply to every client project. You are responsible for how you present Clir's results to your clients.
Clir Partners
Clir Partners is an application-based programme for independent professionals and businesses who use Clir for their own clients. Applying is not approval: Clir reviews each application and may approve, decline or ask for more information.
Partners work independently. Joining the programme does not make anyone an employee, agent or partner in the legal sense of Clir. Partners choose their clients and set their own fees, their clients pay them directly, and Clir does not collect those payments, guarantee clients or promise earnings.
An approved partner may receive a one-time complimentary allowance of assessment-page credits (currently 500) once they accept the Partners Programme Terms. A credit covers one page in a client project of up to 50 pages. Credits are units of Clir service, not money: they have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn, sold or transferred. An introductory allowance does not start a paid subscription, and accepting it does not require a payment card.
Eligible Agency workspaces may also earn additional assessment-page credits when a new customer makes a qualifying purchase through their referral link. Referral credits are not cash commissions.
The detailed rules are in the Clir Partners Programme Terms and the Credits & Referrals Policy, which form part of these Terms for anyone who takes part. For the programme itself they apply together with, and are read alongside, these Terms; the limits on what Clir's automated assessments can tell you (sections 2 and 13) apply to every Partner project.
Workspace and projects
A workspace is an optional account area that lists the assessments and client projects linked to an email address you have verified. There is no password: you sign in with a one-time link sent to that address. You can verify more than one address, and purchases made with any of them appear in the same workspace. Knowing an email address or a report reference does not give access to anyone's purchases, and you must not use a workspace to reach purchases that are not yours.
You can buy an assessment without a workspace. Private report links keep working without one, and a report link never opens your workspace.
These actions are different, and none of them refunds work Clir has already done:
- cancelling a client project before any work has started releases its pages (or its credits) at once;
- cancelling a client project after work has started stops the pages that have not started. Pages already assessed stay in your report and are not refunded; credits for the cancelled pages come back to your balance. Agency Pass capacity held for a project that has started stays held until its 90-day window ends;
- archiving a finished project hides it from your current list. It does not release its pages or credits early and does not affect its report, rechecks or Closeout;
- cancelling an Agency Pass subscription stops renewal. Projects you have already started continue for their own 90-day window; and
- stopping monitoring ends scheduled checks. It does not change an existing report.
Branded reports and client deliverables
Agency Pass customers and approved Clir Partners can choose to present reports, Fix Packs and Closeouts under their own business identity or a client's. Clir's own branding is used for direct customers, and remains a choice for everyone else.
When agency or client branding is chosen, Clir's name and commercial branding are removed from the pages and footer of the report and from its explanatory text. What the report says about the assessment does not change: it states that the assessment is automated, what was tested, the assessment date, its limitations, the findings and their evidence. A branded report must not be presented as a manual audit, as work a person did when software did it, or as a certification of compliance.
Branding cannot change findings, timestamps, scope, severity, evidence or qualifications. Clir keeps the technical record of each assessment (its date and scope, and the versions of the software and rules used) and will give the owner of a report access to that record on request.
You must have permission to use any name, logo or image that you add. Clir may refuse branding that infringes someone else's rights, impersonates another business or would make a report misleading.
Branding is applied when a report is opened or a file is generated. A file you have already downloaded does not change, and a change to your branding affects reports you open or download afterwards. A branded report link opens only that report.
Monitoring
Monitoring is optional and is never switched on automatically. It checks only the pages you approve when you switch it on, on a schedule you choose from those offered for your purchase or plan, within the limits shown at that time. A One Page report includes monitoring of its page only inside its own access period, and only up to 3 checks.
Monitoring is periodic, not continuous. Each check is a snapshot of the pages at that moment. It can report newly detected issues and possible regressions; it cannot see changes between checks and does not show that a page is accessible.
If a page cannot be reached or compared reliably, Clir tries it up to 3 times and then records it as unavailable instead of as fixed. After 3 failed checks in a row we tell you, and after 5 the monitor is paused.
You can pause, resume or stop monitoring at any time, or run a check yourself (up to 2 a day for each monitor). Updates go to a verified email address that you choose, each with a link to turn them off. We tell you 7 days before included monitoring ends.
Scheduled checks stop when the monitoring allowance ends, when the pass that provides it ends, or when the purchase is refunded. Monitoring does not extend the rechecks included with an assessment or its report access period.
When assessment work begins
For a single-page assessment, scanning may occur before payment and payment unlocks the Accessibility Report.
For a multi-page assessment, accessibility testing begins after payment is successfully confirmed.
By purchasing a multi-page assessment, you request that Clir begin processing the selected assessment promptly after payment. A client project started from an Agency Pass begins when you start it from your pass.
Delivery and report access
Reports are delivered digitally through a private Clir report page.
Private report access is provided for 90 days. When your payment is confirmed, Clir emails a private link to the address you gave at checkout; keep that email, because the link is how you return to your report. You are responsible for keeping your private report link secure.
Where available, you may download report information during that access period for your own records.
If you lose access to a purchased report during its access period, contact support@clir.site. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify the purchase before restoring access.
Sharing, security and access
A private report link opens the one report it identifies, for as long as that report's access period lasts. Anyone who has the link can open that report, so share it only with people who should see it. A report link never opens an account or any other report.
Clir may replace or disable a link where that is necessary to protect a customer or to respond to a verified access request.
You must not use a report link, reference or email address to try to reach another party's report or purchases.
Pages Clir cannot assess
Some pages may be unavailable, block automated access, time out, change during processing or otherwise be impossible to assess.
Clir may retry unsuccessful pages. A multi-page report may therefore contain a combination of successfully assessed and unsuccessful pages.
The report will identify the scope actually processed where applicable.
Our Refund Policy explains what happens where technical problems materially affect delivery.
Your responsibilities
You agree not to:
- submit a website you are not authorised to assess;
- use Clir to attempt to access private or restricted systems without permission;
- interfere with, overload, probe or circumvent Clir's security or technical limits;
- misuse report links or attempt to obtain another customer's report;
- use Clir for unlawful activity; or
- misrepresent a Clir report as a certification or guarantee issued by Clir.
You remain responsible for deciding how to evaluate and implement remediation recommendations.
Refunds
Refund eligibility is governed by the Clir Refund Policy.
Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Availability
We aim to keep Clir available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
We may temporarily restrict access where reasonably necessary for security, maintenance, abuse prevention or service reliability.
Intellectual property
Clir and its website, branding, report design and original service content are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
You may use a report you purchased for your own business or professional purposes, including sharing it with employees, contractors, developers or advisers working on the assessed website.
You do not acquire ownership of Clir's software, branding or underlying service.
Limitation of the assessment
Accessibility depends on factors that automated testing alone cannot always determine, including context, user interaction and human judgement.
Accordingly, you should not rely on a Clir report as the sole basis for representing that a website is fully accessible or legally compliant.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Clir is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising solely from reliance on an assessment as a guarantee of legal compliance.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Clir.
Changes
We may update these Terms as Clir develops. Updated Terms apply from the effective date shown on the published version and do not retrospectively change the agreed price of a completed purchase.
If we make a material change that affects a service you have already paid for, we will tell you before it applies to that service where we reasonably can.
Support and contact
For questions about a payment, report delivery, an inaccurate finding, access to your reports or these Terms, include the order reference or the website assessed. Do not send payment-card details or passwords. We investigate reported problems using the information reasonably available to us.
Questions about Clir or these Terms can be sent to:
Rechecks of an assessment
A paid assessment includes up to 2 rechecks during the 90 days after your payment is confirmed. A recheck checks the pages of the original assessment again and reports, for each original finding, what Clir found at the time, what it finds now, and how it reached that conclusion.
A recheck is limited to the pages of the original assessment. It cannot be used to assess other pages or addresses; those require a new assessment.
A recheck is an automated comparison. It can show that a condition Clir detected originally is no longer detected. It does not show that a page is accessible or that it meets WCAG or any law, and it does not replace manual or user testing. “No longer present” means an element or condition could not be found; it does not establish that it was corrected.
Findings detected during a recheck that were not part of the original assessment are reported separately, in a bounded form. They are not a new assessment of the page.
A recheck is used once pages have been compared. A recheck is not used if Clir cannot complete the check for a technical reason. Unused rechecks expire at the end of the recheck period and have no cash value.
If a purchase is refunded, access to the report and to any unused rechecks ends.
Assessment conditions and changing websites
Clir assesses the version of a page that is available to the assessment when processing takes place. Websites are dynamic: content, templates, scripts, third-party components, redirects and page behaviour can change before, during or after an assessment. Two assessments of the same address at different times can therefore produce different results where the rendered website has changed or where content available to the browser is different.
A redirect may cause Clir to assess the destination that is actually rendered rather than the address originally entered. Where a page becomes unavailable, blocks automated access, times out or cannot be processed reliably, Clir may retry it and may identify it as unsuccessful rather than treating the absence of findings as a pass.
Third-party and interactive content
An assessed page can include content or functionality supplied by another provider, including embedded frames, widgets, media, payment or scheduling components and other integrations. Where that content is available to the rendered page and can be assessed, findings may include issues originating from it. The presence of third-party content does not mean Clir controls that content or can correct it on the customer's behalf.
Some content appears only after a particular interaction, authentication step, user choice or application state. Automated assessment does not reproduce every possible user journey or every state a visitor could create. The report should therefore be read as evidence from the pages and states Clir was able to observe within the purchased scope, not as a representation that every possible interaction was exercised.
Findings and remediation guidance
Technical evidence and remediation information are provided to help website owners, developers and advisers investigate the issues Clir detects. A suggested correction describes a way the detected condition may be addressed; it is not a promise that one change, applied without regard to the surrounding component or user experience, resolves every accessibility consideration associated with that feature.
Customers remain responsible for evaluating changes in the context of their own website and for deciding whether additional manual, assistive-technology or user testing is appropriate. A new assessment can be used after changes are made to evaluate the website's then-current rendered state.
Use and sharing of reports
A purchased report may be used for the customer's own business or professional purposes and may be shared with employees, contractors, developers and professional advisers who are working on the assessed website. If an agency or service provider purchases an assessment for authorised client work, it may use the report in that work subject to these Terms and its authority to assess the website.
Private report links should be treated as confidential. Sharing a report does not transfer ownership of Clir's software, assessment system, branding or underlying service, and a report must not be altered or presented in a way that turns it into a certification or guarantee from Clir.
